Answer:

1. (1) They help in modernising agriculture. Industries reduce the heavy dependence of people on agriculture by providing them jobs. (2) Industrial development is a pre-condition for eradication of unemployment and poverty from the country.

2. Availability of labor or skilled workforce is the success mantra for the growth of all industries. Availability of easy transportation always influences the location of the industry. So the junction points of waterways, roadways and railways become humming centers of industrial activity.

3. The ideal condition for setting up industries is a moderate climate region because the availability of labor and market is high as these regions are densely populated. Also, the cost of air condition and heater is less in the moderate climate region which reduces the utility cost in this region.

Answer:

1. Mention two points as to why industries are needed?

  • They help in modernising agriculture.
  • By establishing industries in tribal and backward areas, regional disparities came down.

2. How is labour an important factor for the location of an industry?

Labour is the workers in a factory. All factories depend on labour. Some factories use low-skilled labour and others used highly skilled, specialist workers. The largest number of workers live in or near towns. Therefore, factories located near to towns and cities, often in industrial estates, to be close to workers. Factories owners like to keep the cost of their labour (wages and salaries) as low as possible. Therefore they might locate in a country where wages are low. However, if a factory needs highly skilled workers, the factory might change location to access the skilled labour they need.

3. Industries are set up in places with moderate climate. Why?

The ideal condition for setting up industries is a moderate climate region because the availability of labor and market is high as these regions are densely populated. Also, the cost of air condition and heater is less in the moderate climate region which reduces the utility cost in this region.
