The term geodiversity encompasses all aspects of the natural, non-living materials and landforms that make up the physical structure of our planet and the processes that continue to form them today, both internally and at the surface. This broad definition includes geological materials, such as sediments, rocks, minerals and fossils, the geological and geomorphological processes that form them and the landforms created by such processes. Geodiversity also includes the products of the interactions of these materials and processes with biological systems, which includes soils, as well as natural landscapes and Earth materials removed from a natural to a cultural context, for instance to museums or used as building stones.
