we know tanA=1/cotA......(1)

substituting the value in place of tanA.

1-1/cotA the whole divided by 1+1/cotA .

taking lcm.

we get,

cotA-1/cotA÷cotA +1/cotA will be equal to...

cotA-1/ cotA ×cotA /cotA+1{division of division ...is multiplication.}

now cancelling the cotA ..we get cotA-1/cotA +1
