Given: 1 mole of water, 3 moles of methanol and 5 moles of ethanol are mixed.

To find: We have to find the mole fraction of methanol.

Solution:

Mole fraction of any compound is a ratio of the number of moles of the compound to the total number of moles.

The total number of moles is 1+3+5=9 moles.

The number of moles of methanol present in the mixture is 5 moles.

Thus mole fraction will be-

5/9=0.55

Thus, the mole fraction of methanol is 0.55
