You might be surprised why there are two answers, but it really depends on the context. As the sentence is imperative we can take it as a command or a request. We can figure out this context isn't much of a request, right? Reported speech is often used in Articles, Newspapers, magazines, stories, past recollections,etc...

  • The first rule is to choose a reporting verb and tense. As shown above.

  • The second rule is to change the perspective, or point of view. That means we have to remove the quotes of direct speech.

  • The next rule is to "backshift" the tense. Change the tense accordingly.

  • Reporting on questions. That means we have to change a question to a statement.
