1)Name the effect of current responsible for the glow of the bulb in an

electric circuit? How will you know that an electric current produces

a magnetic effect?

2) What happens to a compass needle kept close to a current carrying

wire?

3) Tap water conduct electricity but distilled water does not. Give

reason?

4)What do you meant by electrolysis?

5) What changes can be done to distilled water to make it conduct

electricity?

1, When an electric current is passed through the tungsten filament, due to the resistance of the filament and the drift of the electrons due to the current, the filament starts heating. ... Therefore, the effect of current responsible for the glow of the bulb in an electric circuit is heating effect and not magnetic effect.

2, A current carrying conductor produces a magnetic field around it. This magnetic field apply force on the magnetic needle of compass, and thus the needle shows deflection.

3, Electricity is conducted through liquids by ions. Tap water conducts electricity due to presence of ions of dissolved salts and minerals in it. But distilled water which is a covalent compound has no ions to conduct electricity through it.

4, Electrolysis, process by which electric current is passed through a substance to effect a chemical change. The chemical change is one in which the substance loses or gains an electron (oxidation or reduction).

5, Distilled water can conduct electricity if you add a small amount of ionic salt. ex MgCl or NaCl (table salt). These salts dissociate into their respective anions and cations which are free to move hence conduct electricty.
