On dividing a perfect square number by 4, the remainder is 0 or 1

1) Even perfect square number or we can say that when we square the even number,

  • (2n)²
  • 4n²

so it is clear that it is the multiple of 4 only so on dividing the even perfect square Remainder is 0.

2) Odd perfect square number or we can say that when we square the odd number,

  • (2n+1)²
  • 4n²+4n+1

Clearly 4n²+4n is the multiple of 4 so on dividing the odd perfect square Remainder is 1.
