1) one atom of oxygen- O
2) two atoms of oxygen -2O
3) ONE MOLECULE OF OXYGEN - O2
4) two molecules of oxygen- 2O2
We come to know the number of molecules by the number on the left side of the symbol as in the example(2) and example (4)
but why are two atoms of oxygen which should be represented like in example (3) written as 2O
why not O2??
because we are taught that atoms are always represented below the symbol as a subscript.
