In this kind of math, you do things in order and you will be all fine.
First one is savings. Translate English to math:
"1/3 of Salary is savings"
The English word "of" translates to "multiply" in math. the English word "is" translates to "equal". Therefore
1/3 * $4500 = "savings"
So you know savings is $1500.
Of that $1500, 50% is food.
$1500 x 50% = "food"
$1500 x 0.5 = $750 = "food"
Of that $1500, 20% is rent.
$1500 x 20% = "rent"
$1500 x 0.2 = $300 = "rent"
The amount spent for food and rent are $750 and $250 respectively.
