Answer:

a computer of medium power, more than a microcomputer but less than a mainframe.

A minicomputer, or colloquially mini, is a class of smaller computers that was developed in the mid-1960s and sold for much less than mainframe and mid-size computers from IBM and its direct competitors.

A minicomputer is also called as a mid-range computer. Minicomputers are mainly multi-users systems where more than one user can work simultaneously. Mini computer examples: IBM's AS/400e, Honeywell200, TI-990.

Answer:

Medium and small businesses and colleges typically use minicomputers. Minicomputers are much larger and also much more expensive than normal PCs, laptops, tablets, and/or smartphones.  Minicomputers have multiple terminals, and can store large amounts of information. They are capable of retrieving larger amounts of data than normal computer devices which are generally used by individuals and small firms. It uses enhanced instruction set to facilitate scientific processing and commercial applications. These type of computers are often referred to as mid range computers as on the basis of size and speed they fall between microcomputers and mainframe computers.Minicomputers emerged in the mid-1960s and were first developed by IBM Corporation. They were primarily designed for business applications and services that require the performance and efficiency of mainframe computers. Minicomputers are generally used as mid-range servers, where they can operate mid-sized software applications and support numerous users simultaneously. Minicomputers may contain one or more processors, support multiprocessing and tasking, and are generally resilient to high workloads. Although they are smaller than mainframe or supercomputers, minicomputers are more powerful than personal computers and workstations.
