The incorrect statement is "Root cap is well developed in aquatic plants." (option B)

  • The first statement is correct as the primary root does not stay for long. It gets replaced by fine hair-like fibrous roots in the case of monocots.
  • True root cap is not present in aquatic plants, instead, root pockets are available. A root cap is a thimble-like structure present at the tip of roots. It protects while making its way through the soil. As aquatic plants float in water or are submerged in water, they don't need any protection from pushing soil elements. Thus the second statement is incorrect.
  • The mechanical support provided to heavy branches by prop roots is found mainly in banyan trees. They arise from branches and help banyan trees to stand straight. Thus the statement in option c is correct.
  • The region of maturation comes first in the case of roots. When a region of elongation gets matured it forms a region of matuaration. It is close to the soil and bears root hairs. These root hairs helps roots to absorb more water by increasing surface area. Thus the last statement is also correct.
  • Hence as the statement in option B is incorrect so we will choose option B as the answer.
