Given:

A cell is given consisting of two ions as follows:

 \boxed{ \rm{Mg :  {Mg}^{ + 2}  \:  |  \:  {Cu}^{ + 2}  :  Cu}}

To find:

The correct statement/s :

(A) Mg is cathode

(B) The cell reaction is Mg + Cu2+ →Mg2+ + Cu

(C) Cu is cathode

(D) Cu is the oxidizing agent

Solution:

 \sf{Mg \rightarrow {Mg}^{ + 2}  + 2e} \\  \sf{{Cu}^{ + 2}  + 2e \rightarrow Cu}

So, cell reaction becomes:

 \boxed{ \red{ \large{ \sf{Mg  +  {Cu}^{ + 2}   \rightarrow{Mg}^{ + 2}  + Cu} }}}

Here , Copper (Cu+2) acts as the oxidising agent.

Copper(Cu) is the cathode.

So, statements 2 , 3 and 4 are correct.
