1. Phases of moon are observed because

c) the shadow of the earth falls on the moon.

Some Information :-

☛ The earth revolves round the sun while the Moom revolves round the earth. There are possibilities that the moon may come in front of the earth which blocks light emitting from the sun. We call it Solar Eclipse.

☛ Since the moon revolves round the sun there are possibilities that the shadow of earth may completely block the light emitting from the sun to reach the moon. We call it Lunar eclipse.

☛ The shadow of the earth changes the phases of the moon by blocking particular area of the moon. We see a full moon because in that situation the earth is not able to block the light to reach the moon. While we see a very sharp shape of the moon ( like an arc ) Because the earth blocks almost all the light to reach the moon, But a little light is able to reach the moon causing a arc like shape of the moon to be visible from the earth. Which we call the new moon. ( Starting of a new month )
