Given : In a triangle PQR

MN II QR

PN=3.6 cm

NR=2.4 cm

PQ=5 cm

To Find :  PM

Solution:

Thales Theorem / BPT ( Basic Proportionality Theorem)

if a line is drawn parallel to one side of a triangle intersecting the other two sides, then it divides the two sides in the same ratio.

In  triangle PQR

MN II QR

=> PM/MQ   = PN/NR

=> PM/MQ  = 3.6/2.4

=> PM/MQ  = 3/2

=> MQ = 2PM/3

PQ = PM + MQ

=> 5 = PM + MQ

=> 5 = PM + 2PM/2

=> 15 = 3PM + 2PM

=> 15 = 5PM

=> PM = 15/5

=> PM = 3

Length of PM is  3 cm
