SOLUTION

TO CHOOSE THE CORRECT OPTION

Price of an article is increased by 3%, had it been Rs. 16 less, price would have decreased by 1% of the original price. Find the original price of the article

  • Rs. 400

  • Rs. 500

  • Rs. 800

  • Rs. 1600

EVALUATION

Let price of the article = Rs P

Now if Price of the article is increased by 3% then the price becomes

 \displaystyle \sf{ =Rs.  \:   \frac{103P}{100} }

If the price decreased by 1% of the original price then the price becomes

 \displaystyle \sf{ =Rs.  \:   \frac{99P}{100} }

So by the given condition

 \displaystyle \sf{\frac{103P}{100}  - 16 = \frac{99P}{100} }

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies \: \frac{103P}{100}  -  \frac{99P}{100} = 16 }

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies \: \frac{103P -99P }{100}  = 16 }

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies \: \frac{4P }{100}  = 16 }

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies \: 4P= 1600 }

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies \: P=400 }

So the price of the article = Rs 400

FINAL ANSWER

Hence the correct option is Rs. 400
