Democracy is a form of governance with a political system that acknowledges and protects civil liberties, allows expression of political opinions by the citizenry and restraints the power of the people holding office in the different institutions that exist.

The first democracy country is traced to 1809 till 1848 during which they were three. By the beginning of the 20th century there were 10 democratic countries and the system has been continued being  adopted  reaching 87 countries by 2009. India is the largest democracy in the world.
