let us assume that root 5 is a rational number .

we know that rational no. are in form of p/q

so,root5= p/q

p= root 5q

we know that 'p' is a rational no.

so, root5q must be rational .

since it equals to p

But it doesnt occurs with root 5 since its not an integer .

therefore ; p=/= root5q

This contradicts that fact that root 5 is an irrational number .

hence our assumption is wrong and root5 is an irrational  no.
