1. Radha’s age is 4 times the sum of the ages of her two sons. Six years hence her age will be double the sum of their ages. Find Radha’s age.

Let us assume Radha’s age is x years and her two son’s ages are a years and b years respectively

Sum of her son’s age is = (a + b) years

 

Given:

x = 4(a + b)

 

After 6 years,

x + 6 = 2 (a + 6 + b + 6)

x + 6 = 2 (a + b + 12)

x + 6 = 2(a +b) + 24

x = 2 (a + b) + 18  ---------------2

 

Multiply equation 2 by 2

2x = 4 (a+ b) + 36

 

Substitute x = 4 (a + b) from equation 1

2x = x + 36

x = 36 years

 

Radha’s present age is 36 years.
