Water pollution affect large population in India.This is mostly caused by the disposal of untreated sewage.Sources such as agricultural runoff & unregulated small scale industry also pollutes water.Rivers such as Yamuna,Ganga,Gomti,Ghaghara river,Chambal,Mahi,Vardha are amongst the most coliform polluted water in India.More than 500 million people live along the Ganges River.Different persons ritually bathe daily in the river,which is considered holy by Hindus.Ganges river pollution is a major health risk.
