1 Read the following passage carefully:
1 International Space Station or ISS celebrated its 15th anniversary on November 20. The Russian Space Agency launched
its first component into orbit called Zarya, which means Sunrise. Two weeks later, the United States shipped their own 155
component titled Unity on the shuttle Endeavour. Piece by piece, the station was assembled with parts from various
countries to conduct experiments in fields such as biology, physics and metrology
2.On October 31, 2000, one National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) astronaut and two Russian cosmonauts
travelled to their new orbiting home. There have been 37 expeditions since then, and ISS inhabitants have logged nearly
11,000 hours in space walks.
3.It is the tenth space station ,or a habitable artificial satellite in the Earth's orbit. It is the largest artificial body in Earth's
orbit. It can often be seen with the naked eye from our planet. It consists of pressurized modules, solar array and other
components.
4.The ISS has been continuously occupied for 13 years and 23 days, the longest continuous human presence in space. It has
been visited by astronauts and cosmonauts from 15 different nations.
5. The 155 crew provides opportunities to students by running activities, making educational demonstrations, allowing them
to participate in classroom versions of ISS experiments and directly engage students through radio, video links and emails.
6.The space station has more livable room than a six-bedroom house - spread across 14 pressurized modules or
components
7. There are three laboratories - the US Destiny module, European Columbus module and Japan Kibo lab - the three
connecting nodes (Unity, Harmony and Tranquility).
