A merchant was riding home from a fair. He had with him a large bag of money. It rained heavily and the good
man was wet through and through. He was greatly discontented and complained greatly that the god had given
him such a bad weather for his journey. His road led him through dense forest. Here he saw with horror a robber
who was raising his gun to his shoulder tried to fire at him. He would have been killed but the robber’s gun
powder had become moist by the rain that his gun did not go off. The merchant gave the horse the spur and safely
rode away. Thus, the foul weather of which he had complained so much saved his life.
