1. Read the following passage carefully:
This age can probably be called as the noisiest in human history because a lot of
noise is being created by so many agencies. Noise is the greatest bone of
modern life. Every moment the human beings are distracted by it. It is very
harmful since it weakens our nerves and often maddens us. If the average
Indian life is only forty-five, we are only to blame for it. The noise in and around
is wearing us out at a terrific pace. The present day babies are peculiar loud-
throated. When they open their mouth, they let out a shattering volume of
sound. In the classrooms, too, their teachers order them for silence but they
remain the noisiest creatures on the earth. It will be in the interest of their
health if one period is observed for absolute silence and prizes be offered for
the softest spoken student in the school at the end of the year.
In addition to this, we can't avoid the street hawkers who speak at the highest
pitch. The running traffic of vans, scooters, three wheelers and factories go on
producing clattering sounds all around. Even the noise of working machinery
too disturbs our health and hygiene. On the festive occasions, a loud noise of
music and the beating of drums affect our minute nerves. On certain festivals,
the explosion of crackers and the smoke thereby endanger our lives. All try to
attain silence but we fail to attain it.
