1. Read the following passages and answer the questions that follow
A. For decades the world's greatest doctors and researchers had believed that stomach ulcers and
eventually, stomach cancers were caused by stress, spicy foods and too much acid in the stomach
Barry Marshall was not buying it. Marshall was an Australian physician and microbiology researcher
and he believed that stomach ulcers were not merely a byproduct of a hectic life or an overty spicy
dinner . Instead he believed ulcers were caused by bacteria. More specifically. Marshall believed
ulcers were caused by Helicobacter pylori.
Despite his belief, Marshall had been unable to prove it. So he decided to take the matters into his
own hands conduct a personal experiment of the boldest kind. In July of 1984 he drank a beaker of
cloudy, brown liquid swimming with Helicobacter pylori. Three days later he started feeling
nauseous. On Day 5, he began to vomit and continued doing so for three days straight. Finally he
began to develop a severe episode of gastritis in his stomach. After two weeks of self induced hell,
Marshall had the proof he needed and began taking antibiotics. Not only they had proven that
Helicobacter pylori was the cause of stomach ulcers, he had also revealed the important precursor
to stomach cancers.
Within a month, Marshall and his colleagues had submitted the experiment and results to the
Medical Journal of Australia for publication. Marshall and his partner, Robin Warren, received the
2005 Nobel Prize for their efforts. 10 marks

Answer:
1) b fourteen days
2) a ADCB
Explanation:
1) There in the paragraph above, they said,'after two weeks of self induced hell'. he got the proof he needed. so one week is equal to 7 days.
2) it goes with him drinking bacteria then getting its effects and recieving the results he had longed for then submitting the results and next one is him getting the Nobel prize for his achievement.
