1. Read the given passage below and answer the following questions:
Carboxylic acids are stronger acids than phenols, Acidic nature of carboxylic acid is due to cleavage of O-H
bond of carboxylic acid. Release of proton from carboxylic acid group results in the formation of carboxylate
ion which is more stablised than carboxylic acid. Any factor that stabilizes the carboxylate ion increases the
acidic nature of carboxylic acids. Although carboxylic acid contain carbonyl group yet it does not form
condensation products such as oxime , hydrazones etc with ammonia derivatives , Methanoic acid is the only
carboxylic acid that behaves as a reducing agent.
