A yak is a very heaw, strong or with shaggy black hair and humped shoulders. Yaks belong to the
animal family that includes cattle, buffaloes, antelopes and goats. They live on the high Himalayan
mountain plateaus of Tibet, Nepal, Bhutan and India. They graze on grass and drink a lot of water.
They often eat snow in winter because of their fondness for water. Some yaks even live in the wild
but the continuous reduction in their number has made them almost extinct there. Bulls (male
yaks) can grow as tall as 1.8 meters and welgh twice as much as a horse but cows (female yaks) are
usually smaller and welgh less, Wild Yaks live in large herds comprising of cows, young bulls and
calves. Older bulls remain together in smaller groups. Mountain people usually domesticate yaks.
The domestic yak is very useful to people. They eat its meat and drink Its milk.
