In figure - 1 :-

  • The side BC is called opposite side
  • AB is called Adjacent side
  • AC is called hypotenuse

Consider a system of recatngular cordinate axis OX,OY .Draw a circle with centre O and radius R .Choose a point P (x,y) on circle that ray OP makes an angle θ radians with OX measured in anti clock wise direction Draw a perpendicular PM to OX

In Triangle OPM

  • OP = hypotenuse = r
  • PM = side opposite to θ = y
  • OM = side adjacent to θ =x

Now,

MP/OP = side opposite to θ/ hypotenuse =y/r

This ratio is called sine of angle θ It is written as sinθ

So, sinθ = oppostite to θ /hypotenuse

Trigonometric Identities:-

sin²θ + cos²θ = 1

sec²θ - tan²θ = 1

csc²θ - cot²θ = 1

Trigonmetric relations:-

sinθ = 1/cscθ

cosθ = 1 /secθ

tanθ = 1/cotθ

tanθ = sinθ/cosθ

cotθ = cosθ/sinθ

Trigonmetric ratios:-

sinθ = opp/hyp

cosθ = adj/hyp

tanθ = opp/adj

cotθ = adj/opp

cscθ = hyp/opp
