eq (i) * 3 - eq (ii) *  4

then

$12a+9y=14\\\\12a-16y=23\\\\25y=19\\\\y=\dfrac{19}{25}$

eq (i) * 4 + eq (ii) * 3

then

$16a-12y=56\\\\9a-12y=69\\\\25a=125\\\\a=5\\\\a=\dfrac{1}{x} \\\\5=\dfrac{1}{x} \\\\x=\dfrac{1}{25}$

so ( x, y )  =  ( $\dfrac{1}{25} ,\dfrac{19}{25}$)
