1. Solve the following word problems.

failed. How many candidates appeared for the examination?

no. of candidates that passed= 29456

no. of candidates that failed=57281

total no. of candidates that appeared for the examination= passed candidates+failed candidates

=29456+57281= 88837

therefore 88837 students appeared for the examination
