1. Solve the following word problems. Use the required information only.
(a) In a train with 28 bogies, 2,740 people were travelling. Out of these
1,560 were men. How many women were there in the train?
(b) The population of village A is 26,820. Village B, which is 125 km away, has
a population of 37,648. How many more people are there in village B?

(c) A photo album can hold 1,600 photos. Meera keeps 623 photos in the
album and her sister keeps 529 photos. How many more photos can be
put in the album?
(d) At a school library there are 3,650 books in maths and 1,110 books in
Hindi. How many books are there in Hindi less than in maths at the

(e) In a barrel with capacity of 4,500 bottles of oil, 2,860 bottles are kept.
Out of these 1,925 bottles of oil are removed. How many bottles of oil
are left in the barrel now?

No.of people travelling in that train=2,740

No.of men=1,560

No.of women=2,740-1,560=1,080

Therefore,no.of women in train are 1,080
