1. Some chemical reactions can result in the production of a gas. Further tests must be conducted to identify the gas evolved.
During an experiment, three chemical reactions are performed and a gas is evolved in each of them. The gas evolved may be either hydrogen, oxygen or carbon dioxide. Design an investigation to identify the gas evolved in each reaction.
You must include your aim, hypothesis with scientific reasoning, procedure with safety precautions and a blank data table to record your observations in.

Experiment on the production of gas produced during a chemical reaction.

Aim:  to check the presence of a gas which can be either hydrogen, carbon dioxide or oxygen.

Procedure: we have to pick up burning splinter and introduce it slowly into the gas container without allowing any gas to escape from it.

Safety precaution: we should prevent any gas from escaping outside. In addition to this we should prevent any large fire to take place inside the laboratory.

Observation: the container which has oxygen makes the splinter born into flames due to the presence of oxygen which is a supporter of combustion , on the other hand hydrogen burns with a pop sound. The other gas is carbon dioxide.
