1. Starting from carbon dioxide how would you obtain
a) A weak acid
b) A fertilizer
c) A highly poisonous gas
d] Black particles of carbon. [Give balanced equations for the same]

2. State how you would convert carbon dioxide to a metallic carbonate using a basic oxide. e.g. sodium oxide. [Give a balanced equation]

Answer of Q. 1

(A). a weak acid. (carbonic acid from CO2)

when CO2 is dissolve in water, carbonic acid ( H2CO3) is formed.

CO2 + H2O ---------------------> H2CO3

(B). a fertilizer

CO2 reacts with ammonia gas(NH3) to form urea ( a nitrogenous fertilizer) [NH2]2 CO + H2O.

2NH3 + CO2 ---------> [NH2]2 CO + H2O.

(C). a highly poisonous gas [ CO ]

CO2 is reduced to a highly poisonous gas CO by carbon ( coke ). ( carbon monoxide gas CO ).

CO2 + C --------------------------> 2CO

(D). black particles of carbon

Burning of magnesium(Mg) burn in CO2 making use of oxygen of CO2 producing black carbon particles(MgO).

2Mg + CO2----------------------> 2MgO + C

Answer of Q. 2

Basic oxide like Na2O by CO2 are converted into carbonate.

Na2O + CO2 ----------------> Na2CO3

Answer of Q. 3

Method of converting CO to CO2.

1). CO bums in oxygen and changes to CO2.

2CO + O2 -------------------> 2CO2 +

2). By reducing metal oxide

ZnO + O2 --------------------> Zn + CO2
