use for plant:

respiration:break down of food into simple form.

transpiration: loss of water for cooling down the temperature.

guttation: removal of excess amount of water.

some leaf modify to form a propagatory material, spikes, needle etc. to ease plant growth and better adaptation.

for us leaves can be used as:

flavouring agents :like cinnamomum tamala used in rice.

making tea, making vegetables.

for drugs cannabis sativa, bidi leaves(diospyros melanoxylon) used as flavouring while smoking tobbaco in it, even tobbaco is obtained from leaves.

medicinal use: azadirachta indica, coleus barbatus, lemon grass, khuss grass, oscium sanctum, aloe vera etc.

in indian culture it is also used as pot to eat food(leaves of banana and some ficus plants).

and also used for culturing the insects i.e. lac culture, sericulture etc.
