Virtual images are always located behind the mirror. Virtual images can be either upright or inverted. Virtual images can be magnified in size, reduced in size or the same size as the object. Plane mirrors and convex mirrors will always produce an upright image. ... Plane mirrors and convex mirrors only produce virtual images. Only a concave mirror is capable of producing a real image and this only occurs if the object is located a distance greater than a focal length from the mirror's surface. Identify how you can use a concave and/or a plane mirror to form a virtual image. A plane mirror will always produce a virtual image. A concave mirror will only produce a virtual image if the object is located in front of the focal point. A real image occurs when the rays converge. A real image is always formed below the principal axis, so these are inverted whereas a virtual image is always formed above the principal axis so these are always erect.  Real images (images on the same side of the object) are always inverted. Virtual images (images on the opposite side of an object) are always erect/ upright. Convex Mirror is a curved mirror where the reflective surface bulges out towards the light source. This bulging out surface reflect light outwards and are not used to focus light. The image looks smaller than the object from the distance but gets larger as the object gets closer to the mirror.
