1.Teachers,....why is Mercury is a conductor but not an electrolyte and Tap water is a conductor and an electrolyte?

Metals like mercury in general are not electrolytes, and they all conduct electricity, in solid or liquid form. That is because theiratomic structure has electrons that are not attached to the nucleus and are free to move around the material.

tap water contains several minerals and thus it conducts electricity

it contains salt so it carries electrolyte
