Let the numerator and denominator is x .

  1. The denominator of a fraction is greater than numerator by 4 =>x/x+4.
  2. If 1 is subtracted from the numerator =x-1/x+4
  3. 3 is added to the denominator = x-1/x+4+3 =>x-1/x+7
  4. According to question the original fraction =>x-1/x+7=1/3 => 3(x-3)=x+7 => 3x-3=x+7 =>3x-x=7+3 => 2x=10 =>x=10/2 =>x=5
