Answer:

x=9

y=4

Step-by-step explanation:

Let 'x' be the one number.

Let 'y' be the other(smaller) number.

x-y=5--> x=5+y

x+4y=25

(5+y)+4y=25

5+5y=25

5y=25-5

5y=20

y=20/5

y=4

Therefore, x=5+y

                    =5+4=9

This, problem is done by the method of transposing and simple linear equation i have mentioned the following steps and the variables that relate the following. Hope you understand.

Let larger number be x and smaller be y. So, x-y = 5 -> (1)
x + 4y = 25 ->(2)
Therefore on subtraction, we get;
-5y = -20. Hence y = 4 and x = 25 - 16 = 9.
