  • King Harshavardhana who was also known as Harsha was the last emperor of the Vardhana dynasty.
  • He lived from 590 to 647 CE.
  • He was the greatest empire of ancient India before the onset of invasion of Islamic rulers.
  • He sat on the throne from 606 CE to 647 CE.
  • After his death the empire fragmented into smaller kingdoms and states.
  • During this period many warriors as well as chieftains rose to power.
  • They were referred as subordinates or samantas.
  • In course of time these subordinates became powerful than the kings /rulers as soon established themselves as an independent rulers.

  • Rajput is the derivative of a Sanskrit word Rajputra which means "Son of a King".
