  • We will make use of linear equations in one variable and will put the variables according to the given conditions and solve the equation to get the required answer.

Let us take ,

  • Smaller number be x .
  • Greater number be x + 12 .

Now by the given condition , sum of two numbers is 10 . Hence ,

⇒ x + ( x + 12 ) = 10.

⇒ x + x + 12 = 10.

⇒ 2x + 12 = 10.

⇒2 ( x + 6 ) = 10.

⇒ x + 6 = 10/2 .

⇒ x + 6 = 5.

⇒x = ( 5 - 6 ).

x = -1

Hence ,

  • The smaller number = x = (-1)
  • The greater number = x+12= 11.
