given four numbers , find the largest rational number

Explanation:

  1. numbers given are -\frac{4}{5}\ \ \ -\frac{23}{50}\ \ \ -1\ \ \ -\frac{17}{25},  firstly lets determine which of the following is rational. to do so lets convert them to decimal point numbers,                                                                                                                         -\frac{4}{5} = -0.8\\-\frac{23}{50} = -0.46\\-1\\-\frac{17}{25} = -0.68\\
  2. Hence, all are rational numbers.
  3. now since they are all negative numbers , we know that as we move forward towards left side of zero on the number line the values keep decreasing for example, -5<-4
  4. hence the given numbers are of order -0.46>-0.68>-0.8>-1  , greatest rational number among them is -\frac{23}{50} (second option)
