The prime factorization of 4 is 2*2. So the original numbers can only be powers of 2. (If they weren’t powers of 2, then there would be some prime factor other than 2 in the LCM)

There are only two powers of two that can be added to give 6: 2 + 4. The prime factorization of 2 is 2 (since 2 is prime) and the prime factorization of 4 is 2*2, and the LCM of 2 and 4 is 2*2, or 4. 2 and 4 are your numbers.
