Answer:-

Let the breadth of the hall be x m.

Given:

Length is 3 m more than breadth.

→ Length of the hall = (x + 3) m

Also given that,

Area of the hall = 238 m²

We know that,

Area of a rectangle = length * breadth

Hence,

→ 238 = (x + 3) * x

→ x² + 3x - 238 = 0

→ x² - 14x + 17x - 238 = 0

→ x(x - 14) + 17(x - 14) = 0

→ (x + 17)(x - 14) = 0

• x + 17 = 0

x = - 17

• x - 14 = 0

→ x = 14

Breadth of a hall cannot be negative. So, positive value is taken.

Therefore,

  • Length of the hall = x + 3 = 14 + 3 = 17 m.

  • Breadth of the hall = x = 14 m.
