1) the present ratio between the ages of A and B is 2:3..If the age of A is 12 years less than the age of B..what is the present age of B?


2) the average age of 20 subordinates in an office is 22 years.If the age of the manager is also added, the average increases to 23 years. What is the age of the manager?

1. Answer :

  • Equation : A = B - 12yrs ....(1)

 \sf  \frac{age \: of \: a}{age \: of \:B }  =  \frac{2}{3}  \implies   \frac{ B - 12}{ B} =  \frac{2}{3}  \implies 3B - 36  = 2B

 \sf 2B -  3B =  - 36 \implies  \cancel - B =   \cancel- 36

  • Age of B = 36 years . and A = 36-12 = 24 years

2. Answer :-

  • let age of one subordinate be x , avearge 20x = 22
  • let age of manager be y

 \sf  \frac{20x + y}{21}  = 23 \implies 22(20) + y = 483

 \sf y = 483 - 440 = 43 \:  \: years

  • Age of Manager = 43 years
