12000= 8x - 5x

3x=12000

x=12000/3

x= 4000

Income of the family = 8x = 8 x 4000= Rs

32000

2. cost of 9 kg rice = Rs 540

cost of 1 kg rice = Rs 540/9

cost of 25 kg of rice= Rs(540/9 x 25)=

Rs 1500.

cost of 1 kg rice = Rs 60

kg of rice can be bought of Rs 720=

(720/60)kg= 12kg
