Answer:

A mixture of 30 litres contain milk and water in the ratio of 7:3.

Let the rational between milk and water mixture be x.

Thus there is 7x litres milk and 3x litres water

7x + 3x = 30 litres

10x = 30

x = 30/10

x = 3

The rational is 3

Thus, there is 7x = 7 × 3 = 21 litres milk and 3x = 3 × 3 = 9 litres water.

Now w litres water to be added, to make the ratio 3 : 7. The ratio after addition of water

21/(9 + w) = 3/7

Cross multiplication

3 (9 +w) = 21 × 7

27 + 3w = 147

3w = 147 - 27

3w = 120

w = 120/3

w = 40

Thus, 40 litres water to be added to make the milk water ratio to 3:7

Answer : 40 litres water to be added to make the milk water ratio to 3:7
