Answer :-

The story The Shoemaker has been taken from the novel 'A Tale of Two Cities' by Charles Dickens.

The story begins when Monsieur Defarge enters the room of the Shoemaker along with Mr Jarvis Lorry and Lucie Manette. The shoemaker was working assiduously on the shoe and barely noticed when those people entered the room. Monsieur Defarge greeted him but found that he was too busy working hard. He raised his head to answer what had been asked and dropped his face again. His voice was faint. Eighteen long years of prison had made his condition dreadful.

Defarge asked him if he could open the half opened door a little further to let in more light. The shoemaker put up his hand between his eyes and the light. He was habituated of living in that dark room. He had lived in a long seclusion from direct light and air.

When asked his name, he replied '105 North Tower'. It indicated that he didn't even remember that he had been released from the prison. He had lost sanity and upon is released, he was only able to remember and recite is prison cell identification.

The showmaker was completely isolated physically as well as mentally. He seemed to have suffered greatly and have lost all sense.

At the corner of the rooms stood a young lady who was the daughter of the shoemaker. When he saw her, he was traumatized and could not even speak. He was frightened but slowly Lucie pacified him. When he took out to the golden hairs from his pocket, he realised that they were just the same as a Lucie's.

He understood that Lucie Manette was his daughter, but didn't understanding how to react. He slowly then fell back to the work of his shoemaking.
