Hello mate ,

Yours Answer :

Let the required fraction be = x/y ( x is numerator and y is denominator )

According to question ,

The sum of numerator and denominator, x + y = 12 .... eqn(1).

And , Denominator is increased by 3, so the fraction equals to 1/2

Which means: x / y + 3 = 1/2 ,By solving this fraction,we get : 2x–y = 3 ....eqn(2).

On adding both eqns, eqn(1) & eqn(2) , we get:

In addition , x + y = 12

2x – y = 3

So,the sum: 3x = 15 ( As , we know +y –y = 0 ).

Therefore, value of x = 5.

Now , replacing the value of x in the eqn( 1 ) , we get :

x + y = 12

》5 + y = 12

》y = 12 – 5 = 7 .

So , the required fraction , x = 5 and y = 7 , The x/y = 5/7 .
