Answer:
let the present age of mother be x and present age of daughter be 55-x
after 16 years ago of both mother and daughter are :-
mother's age=x+16
daughter's age =55-x+16
=71-x
a/q
after 16 years mother's age will double
her daughter age
2(71-x)=x+16
142-2x=x+16
3x=142-16
x=126/3
x=42
hence, mother's present age is 42 years & daughter's present age is 55-42=13 years
now,
after 5 years from the present the sum of their ages will be:-
(42+5)+(13+5)
47+18
= 65 years
