Answer:

total no. of marbles = 1600

ratio of red to black marbles = 5:12

Let no. of,

red marbles be = 5x

black marbles be = 12x

red marbles + black marbles = 1600

5x + 12x = 1600

17x = 1600

x = 1600/17

x = 94.1176470588 = 94.1

5x = 94.1 * 5 = 470.5 marbles

12x = 94.1 * 12 = 1129.2

no. of red marbles = 5x = 470.5

Verification:

470.5 + 1129.2 = 1599.7 ≈ 1600

( the value is approximate since the answers we got were in huge decimals so we have to take their whole number values for easy solving )

Giving the real decimal verification just in case you want to check it out.

Real decimal verification, with taking x as 94.1176470588:

5x = 470.588235294

12x = 1129.41176471

470.588235294  + 1129.41176471 = 1600 ( perfect value )
