Boy Y appears 11m far in the mirror from Boy X.

Given:

Boy X's distance from the mirror = 2m

Boy Y's distance from boy X = 12 m

Distance boy Y walks towards boy X = 5m

To find:

Distance boy Y would appear to be in the mirror to boy X

Solution:

According to the diagram, we can see that Boy X is 2m away from the mirror, and boy Y is 12m away from Boy X

So the distance of boy Y from the mirror would be,

12m + 2m = 14 m

Boy Y is 14 m away from the mirror.

Since boy Y has now walked 5 m ahead so the distance of Boy Y from the mirror is,

14m - 5m = 9m

Boy Y is 9m away from the mirror.

We need to find the appearance of the image of Boy Y to Boy X

Since Boy X is 2m added from the mirror we need to minus this distance from Boy Y who is 9m away

9m + 2m = 11m

Therefore, Boy Y appears 11m far in the mirror from Boy X.
