Answer:

1. Let the ratio of the numbers be 5x and 3x

according to question,

5x - 3x = 18

or, 2x = 18

or, x = 18/2

x = 9

Therefore, the first number = 5x = 5×9

= 45

& the second number = 3x = 3×9 = 27.

2. Let the age of Rahul and Haroon be 5x and 7x respectively.

according to question,

5x + 4 + 7x + 4 = 56

or 12x + 8 = 56

or, 12x = 56-8

or, 12x = 48

or, x = 48/12

x = 4

Therefore, Rahul's age = 5x = 5×4= 20

& Haroon's age = 7x = 7×4= 28.

3. Let the first consecutive integer be x. then second consecutive integer be x + 1 & third consecutive integer be x+2

according to question,

x + x + 1 + x + 2 = 51

or, 3x + 3 = 51

or, 3x = 51 - 3

or, 3x = 48

or, x = 48/3

x = 16

Therefore, 1st integer = x = 16

2nd integer = x+1 = 16+1 = 17

& 3rd integer = x+2 = 16+2 = 18

Hence, the three consecutive integer is 16, 17 and 18.
